Time to Vent

Ok, so here's the deal.  Over the past 5 years, I have been sitting on the sidelines watching the world of "fitness" grow and conform into this complete mess of commercially led, mis-informed, financially driven bullshit.  The generation of everyone wanting to look like a fitness model is here, and unfortunately, intelligent people that understand the power that marketing has over our lives are taking advantage of this. Infomercials, fitness magazines, diet organizations, websites, etc., have become a multibillion dollar industry, and along with it, "The Truth" has died.

The Truth (phrase) -  1.  The state of being in accord with fact or reality (Wikipedia).
                                  2.  Information that produces results and educates the knowledge-hungry
population on what is best and what is not.  And what is never fabricated
of influenced by income potential (Dave).

Now, the truth comes in many forms and it can apply to many things: nutrition, resistance training, metabolic conditioning, sports performance, aesthetic (physique) training, and the list goes on and on.  There are so many different aspects and subcategories of fitness and how the body reacts to stress that writing a blog to incorporate it all is stupid and pointless - there is just way too much information. Even writing a book on the topic of "fitness" would be a joke, and wouldn't come close to adequately educating people on everything fitness, which is a primary reason why Men's health can't even come close to showing people what to do and what not to do.  They would do better instead to release several different magazines titled "Men's Strength," "Men's Endurance," and "Men's physique,"etc., get rid of all the pages wasted on ad space and bios of famous people and then maybe, just maybe, we would be getting somewhere in the pursuit of educating people.  But here's the rub - they don't want to do that.  The fact that they remain in being general and vague in their advice is what keeps readers coming back for more! If people were ACTUALLY learning anything, then poof, no more magazine sales - but more venting on that shit some other time.

Let's start first with a little background of who I am, because living in the "shake weight" generation, as I've already pointed out, who can you really trust regarding advice on how our bodies react to stress and adapt in order for survival in the form of an increase in performance (*fitness*)??

I'm Dave ::smily face:: writing at you from Long Island, NY and I'm pissed off.  I'm 24 years old and I recently graduated from Hofstra University last December with a degree in Exercise Science.  I've competed in 6 bodybuilding shows and I've been working hard to become a fitness professional for about 5 years solid and I feel like I'm ready to stand up and start talking to y'all... Yea, I know I'm not 35 years old with 15 years experience under my belt but TRUST ME, what I've come to learn VERY WELL in this industry (and I'm sure it's the same in most industries), is that experience expressed by number of years working as a coach, performance facility director, manager, etc., MEANS JACK SHIT.  For example, let's be honest, how many of you out there work under managers who have been managers for many years who are just awful at what they do.  They have people skills that mimic those of goldfish, they micro manage to the point of inspiring you to be less productive, and if they were to read 1 Dale Carnegie book focused on people skills and absorbed 10% of it, they would actually become more effective at what they do.  People like this are great examples of what happens when one goes through life and doesn't consciously put effort in becoming better at what one does.

Well my friends, the same goes for people in my industry - personal trainers, strength coaches, and even some teachers that I've come to know learned something 10 years ago and when confronted with new literature or findings found through PRACTICAL experience, most are so inclined to dig in their heels, such that no one ever learns or grows.  What they have been doing the last 10 years has kept their income stable (with maybe a promotion or 2 - usually due to YEARS worked in the company), so they don't really give a crap about getting to the actual bottom of the issue.  The fact of the matter is that we are learning every day, and that new information is always coming out.  These things are mostly fluff - sprinkles on the cake if you will.  The real CAKE is "The Truth" and is pretty much set in stone.  And it has been proven over decades and even centuries for some areas of fitness.  Trust me, there are thousands of powerlifters, olympic lifters, and bodybuilders who are bigger and stronger than you, and it's due to the fact that they are coached by people who know what they are doing.  It is my goal to start to peel away the bullshit and get the general public more educated on these methods.  Now this stuff may not be as cool or as modern as Tony Little's gazelle, the shake weight, or the #whateverthefuck, but it works, and it will get you to your goals faster.  It will be slowly introduced to you guys in the blogs to follow.

The purpose of this blog is to take a lot of this "behind the scenes" information that most people will never see, and make people more aware of it.  A lot of this stuff has been learned and practiced for decades and even centuries by some of the best coaches in the world to develop some of the fastest, strongest and greatest athletes of all time.  I can blame a variety of different sources but in the end, it is money that has ruined fitness. Money has ruined fitness in the same way that money ruined rock and roll, non processed food, and (*insert socially destroyed example here).  I love this shit and I'm here to help people sort the good from the bad and to provide my passion electronically.  I am most passionate about how the body becomes more proficient in power, strength, and athletic performance and that is what I will be mostly speaking about.  However, it's important to understand that these goals are interrelated to nutrition, aesthetics (physique), and even metabolic conditioning, so all topics will be welcomed and discussed.

In addition to Training, this blog will also focus on other cool shit that I find interesting and that I hope will help inspire others to reach their potential in everything they put their mind to in life.
